Rizwana calls for integrated efforts to restore Chalan Beel’s lost glory

DHAKA, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS)- Adviser of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan has underscored the urgent need for integrated land and water management to protect the Chalan Beel, one of country’s largest water bodies.

“Our existence and emotions are linked to the Chalan Beel. A specific action plan must be formulated to protect it. Harmful structures should be identified and removed, and pesticide use must be reduced,” he said. 

She was speaking as the chief guest at the inception workshop of a project titled “Integrated Management of Land and Water Resources and Feasibility Study on Quality of Life for the Restoration of Chalan Beel”, at Pani Bhaban in the capital today. 

The Adviser said agriculture, livelihood of people, and ecosystem in the region are deeply interconnected.

She said that effective water management, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation must go hand in hand. Local community participation is crucial for restoring the Beel’s lost glory and ecological balance.

The workshop was organized by the Department of Bangladesh Haor and Wetlands Development under the Ministry of Water Resources.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Mokabbir Hossain addressed the event online while Director General of the department Mohammad Habibur Rahman was in te chair.
