DHAKA, Nov 13, 2025 (BSS) -  Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Bangladesh’s highest Buddhist religious leader Dr Jnanasree Mahathero.

In a condolence message, the religious adviser fondly recalled Dr. Jnanasree’s illustrious career and said he enlightened the Bangladeshi Buddhist community for many years with his intellect, wisdom, and creativity.

Alongside spreading the teachings of Buddha, he was also devoted to social reform and humanitarian activities, said Khalid.

He will be remembered for his contributions to promoting interfaith harmony, goodwill, and humanitarian causes.

Dr Jnanasree breathed his last around 4:30 pm today at a private hospital in Chattogram city. In recognition to his outstanding contributions in social service, he was conferred with Ekushey Padak in 2022.
