THAKURGAON, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the country is moving toward a democratic transition in the aftermath of the July Uprising.

"Bangladesh is advancing on the path of democratic transition. A favourable atmosphere has been created, and we hope the next national election will be held in half of February 2026 without complications," he said.

Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting as chief guest at the District Lawyers' Association hall room.

Lawyers from different levels of the district took part in the discussion, sharing their views on the prevailing political situation, judicial independence, human rights, the restoration of democratic rights and the role of the legal community in ensuring justice.

"Lawyers have always played an important role in safeguarding democratic rights and the rule of law," the BNP Secretary General said, adding that united efforts were needed to further strengthen the foundation of nationalist power.

District Lawyers' Association President Zainal Abedin and General Secretary Md Makdum Sabbir Mridul, along with other senior lawyers, also participated at the meeting.
