Nepal PM mourns death of Khaleda Zia

DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - Nepal's Prime Minister Sushila Karki today 
expressed deep sorrow over the death of former prime minister and BNP 
chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, paying tribute to her leadership and role in 
strengthening Nepal-Bangladesh relations.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP 
chairperson and the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh," she said in a 
condolence message. 

"On behalf of the government and people of Nepal, I extend my heartfelt 
condolences to her family, friends and the people of Bangladesh," read the 
message. 

Recalling her contributions, the Nepalese premier said, "Begum Zia leaves 
behind a legacy of lifelong public service, with her enduring leadership 
marking a historic chapter in the democratic journey of her country."

Highlighting bilateral ties, she added, "As a true friend of Nepal, she 
(Khalea Zia) will be remembered for her significant role in strengthening 
Nepal-Bangladesh relations."
