RAJSHAHI, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS)- A daylong scientific conference on 'Innovation, 
Application and Future Trends in Animal Health and Production' was held at 
Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium at Rajshahi University (RU) today.

The Veterinary and Animal Sciences Faculty of RU hosted the 'Veterinary and 
Animal Science Conference -2025' aimed at sharing views about animal health, 
productivity, boosting sectoral sustainability and cooperation.

Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Saleh Hassan Naquib and VC of Chattogram 
Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Prof Lutfor Rahman addressed the 
opening ceremony as the chief and special guests respectively with Dean of 
Veterinary and Animal Sciences Faculty Prof Mozaffar Hossain in the chair.
 
VC of Sylhet Agricultural University Prof Alimul Islam addressed the session 
as guest of honour while RU Pro-VCs Prof Mayeen Uddin and Prof Farid Uddin 
Khan and Chairman of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Prof 
Moizur Rahman also spoke.

In his remarks, Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib said animal health and production 
are influenced by factors like disease control, herd health management, and 
housing.

Animal production is a significant tool for poverty reduction, especially for 
rural populations. But, common challenges include diseases, feed shortages, 
and climate change, which impact food security. 

However, the region also sees economic opportunities through activities like 
bull fattening and commercial sheep farming, which are supported by modern 
practices and local initiatives.

Prof Lutfor Rahman mentioned that guidelines for good practices are crucial, 
but their effectiveness depends entirely on proper implementation by 
stakeholders.

The use of modern technology is helping to improve and expand the animal 
husbandry sector.

The livestock sector must adapt to the impacts of climate change, such as 
flooding, to maintain food and nutrition security.

Prof Alimul Islam said the urban and peri-urban dairy system has great 
potential for development. Research is also ongoing for other species, such 
as indigenous and exotic goats, to improve their performance, he added.
Around 250 scientists, researchers and professionals on the relevant subjects 
joined the conference, where 150 scientific papers were presented in six 
academic sessions.
