Int'l volunteer day observed at DU

DHAKA, Dec 8, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) today observed 
International Volunteer Day on the campus with the theme "Every Contribution 
Matters." 

Marking the occasion, a volunteer conference was held at Nawab Nabab Ali 
Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

DU Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies and the 
Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) Bangladesh Jointly organized the event with 
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan as the chief guest.

Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman, Youth 
and Sports Ministry Joint Secretary (Youth Division) Dr Sheikh Mohammad 
Zobaid Hossain, DU Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Institute 
Director Dr Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, British Council Country Director 
Stephen Forbes and Deputy Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of 
Sweden in Dhaka Nayoka Martinez-Backstrom spoke at the discussion. 

VSO Bangladesh Country Director Khabirul Haque delivered the welcome address, 
while volunteers Md Jamal Hossain and Joya Rani Mondal also remarks.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan expressed thanks to the 
volunteers, saying that significant achievements throughout history have been 
made through voluntary efforts. 

He stressed strengthening interpersonal relationships and upholding the 
spirit of selflessness to continue promoting volunteerism.
