Canadian envoy praises armed forces role in democratic transition

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) – Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh today thanked Bangladesh’s Armed Forces for their constructive role in maintaining stability and supporting a peaceful transition toward a democratically elected government, as he met the navy and air force chiefs.

“He (envoy) thanked Bangladesh’s Armed Forces for the positive role they have played in maintaining stability towards a peaceful transition towards a democratically elected government,” read a statement issued by the Canadian high commission here today.

During separate meetings with Bangladesh Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan and Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Singh discussed ongoing defence cooperation and prospects for expanding bilateral engagements.

According to the High Commission, their discussions focused on shared priorities including training, capacity building and strengthening defence industry ties between the two countries.

Singh underscored the advanced capabilities of Canadian defence, maritime and aerospace sectors, noting that their technologies and services contribute to modernization, safety and enhanced interoperability for global partners.

The two chiefs also briefed on preparations for the upcoming national election, expected to be the largest in the country’s history.

Canada values Bangladesh’s significant contributions to international peace and security and looks forward to expanding engagement with Bangladesh’s defence institutions, including exploring opportunities for collaboration with reputable Canadian industry partners, read the statement.
