DHAKA, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani was a unique personality of distinct political philosophy and struggle, and no one can be compared to him.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Bhashani Janashakti Party at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club. The meeting was chaired by the party's Chairman Freedom Fighter Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu.
Fakhrul said Maulana Bhashani, the dreamer of independent Bangladesh, was the undisputed leader of the anti-imperialist struggle throughout his life. He fought for the rights of farmers, laborers, and the common people. Many leaders, trained by him, later held state power but Bangladesh envisioned by the Maulana has not been established, even 49 years after his death.
He also thanked the government and the Election Commission for announcing the election date and condemned the attack on Dhaka-8 independent candidate Osman Hadi. At the same time, he called upon the government to ensure a peaceful election environment.
Jatiya Party Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider said that to build a Bangladesh of Maulana Bhashani's dreams, one must uphold his ideals. He became known as the 'Mazlum Jananeta' (Leader of the Oppressed People) because he spoke on behalf of the masses and was persecuted at various times.
Special Guest Nazmul Haque Nannu, an advisor to the BNP Chairperson and a columnist, said that Maulana Bhashani was the greatest guardian of nationalism. He never craved power but led his workers to power and he lived a simple life, like the common people, and inspired his followers to serve humanity, Nannu added.
In his presidential address, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu demanded that December 12 (his birthday) and November 17 (his death anniversary) be declared national days. He also called for the inclusion of the stories of Maulana Bhashani's struggling life in textbooks.
Dr. Abu Yusuf Selim, Secretary General of the Bhashani Janashakti Party, said that Bhashani was a true follower of Islam. Those who practice Islamic politics should learn from his life and philosophy as the positive aspects of socialism and democracy are inherent in Islam, he added.
