DHAKA,  Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Shaheed Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon is an important and unforgettable name in the anti-autocracy democratic movement of the 1990s.

In a message marking the Shaheed Dr Milon Day,  Fakhrul said, "Shaheed Dr. Shamsul Alam Khan Milon is an important and unforgettable name in the anti-autocracy democratic movement of the 1990s. Dr. Milon's self-sacrifice will be written in golden letters in the history of democratic movements."

Fakhrul mentioned that on November 27, 1990, during the anti-autocracy movement, Dr. Milon was martyred by the bullets of the henchmen unleashed by the then-government. "On his death anniversary, I pray for the salvation of his soul," he added.

The Secretary General continued, "Dr Milon was martyred while trying to rescue democracy from the shackles of autocratic rule. He is always a source of inspiration for us in the movement and struggle against all authoritarian and anti-democratic autocratic forces."

He said that during the 16 years of horrible misrule by the fascist Awami government, people's democratic rights, including the right to vote, freedom of speech, and individual liberty, were snatched away.

"There was no minimum security for people's lives and property. The level of torture and oppression on the leaders and activists of the BNP and other opposition parties was indescribable."

Mentioning the conspiracy against the country are underway, Fakhrul said, "Even though the people of the country have been freed from autocracy through the unified student-people's movement of August 2024, the conspirators are still lurking, and they want to destabilize the country."

He added, "The people of the country are now united, so the conspirators will never be successful. Shaheed Dr. Milon's sacrifice will always inspire us. Dr. Milon's sacrifice will be fruitful only when we can establish democracy on a firm foundation."
