EU ambassador meets IGP, discusses election security and police reforms

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) - European Union Ambassador Michael Miller today met Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at the Police Headquarters this afternoon. 

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, focusing on key issues including law and order, police reforms, and European Union (EU) assistance to the Bangladesh Police, said a press release.

During the discussion, the EU Ambassador reviewed the country’s prevailing law and order situation, preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, and security arrangements for European Union election observers. 

He also expressed the European Union’s interest in supporting ongoing reform initiatives within the Bangladesh Police.

The IGP emphasized the importance of intensive and practical training for police personnel ahead of the parliamentary elections. 

He outlined the comprehensive preparations undertaken to ensure peaceful elections, including the use of modern technology to maintain security and order. 

Alam also detailed the measures in place to ensure the safety of foreign observers and members of diplomatic missions, highlighting continued cooperation in police reform efforts.

Ambassador Michael Miller informed that around 200 European Union observers will monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections. 

He expressed confidence that the international observers would gain a positive impression of the professionalism, preparedness, and security protocols of the Bangladesh Police.
