Appeal proceeding on nomination papers begins today

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) today began the appeal proceedings over the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

According to a notification issued on Sunday night, a total of 1,842 nomination papers were found valid while 723 were rejected in 300 parliamentary constituencies.

The notification was signed by Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing and Convener of the Central Coordination Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election A S M Humayun Kabir.

As per the election schedule, appeals can be filed with the EC from January 5 to January 9 until 5:00pm. Any aggrieved candidate, bank or financial institution, government agency, or any person duly authorised in writing by a candidate may submit an appeal within the stipulated time.

As per Election Commission (EC) data, in the Rangpur region, 219 nomination papers were declared valid and 59 were rejected against 33 parliamentary seats.

In the Rajshahi region, 185 nomination papers were found valid while 74 were rejected against 39 seats.

In the Khulna region, 196 nomination papers were declared valid and 79 were rejected against 36 parliamentary seats.

In the Barishal region, 131 nomination papers were declared valid while 31 were rejected against 21 seats.

In the Mymensingh region, 199 nomination papers were declared valid and 112 were rejected against 38 parliamentary seats.

In the Dhaka region, 309 nomination papers were found valid while 133 were rejected against 41 seats.

In the Faridpur region, 96 nomination papers were declared valid and 46 were rejected against 15 seats.

In the Sylhet region, 110 nomination papers were found valid while 36 were rejected against 19 seats.

In the Cumilla region, 259 nomination papers were declared valid and 97 were rejected against 35 parliamentary seats.

Besides, in the Chattogram region, 138 nomination papers were declared valid while 56 were rejected against 23 seats.

The EC said the deadline for filing appeals against the decisions of Returning Officers following the scrutiny of nomination papers will end on January 9. The appeals will be disposed of between January 10 and January 18.

An appeal centre has been set up at the Election Commission building in Agargaon in the capital to facilitate filing of appeals.
A total of 10 booths have been installed there on a regional basis for receiving appeals.

Booth No 1 will receive appeals from the Khulna region districts-Meherpur, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Jashore, Magura, Narail, Bagerhat, Khulna and Satkhira.

Booth No 2 will cover the Rajshahi region districts-Joypurhat, Bogura, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Rajshahi, Natore, Sirajganj and Pabna.

Booth No 3 will handle appeals from the Rangpur region districts-Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha.

Booth No 4 will receive appeals from the Chattogram region districts-Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban.

Booth No 5 will cover the Cumilla region districts-Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Noakhali and Lakshmipur.

Booth No 6 will handle appeals from the Sylhet region districts-Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.

Booth No 7 will receive appeals from the Dhaka region districts-Tangail, Kishoreganj, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Narsingdi and Narayanganj.

Booth No 8 will cover the Mymensingh region districts-Jamalpur, Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrokona.

Booth No 9 will handle appeals from the Barishal region districts-Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Jhalakathi and Pirojpur.

Booth No 10 will receive appeals from the Faridpur region districts-Rajbari, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Madaripur and Shariatpur-against the decisions on acceptance and rejection of nomination papers.

The referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held on February 12, 2026.
