CHATTOGRAM, Jan 6, 2026 (BSS) - Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah today said there is no concern regarding the upcoming national elections scheduled for February 12, assuring that the Election Commission (EC) will discharge its duties with transparency, impartiality and firmness.

He said all necessary measures have been taken to maintain law and order at the field level, adding that the commission's actions would be clearly visible on the ground.

"The commission will adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards political parties and candidates in ensuring compliance with the electoral code of conduct," he told journalists.

The Election Commissioner made the remarks after a meeting with the Law Enforcement Cell of Greater Chattogram on the preparations for the 13th National Parliament elections and referendum at the Chattogram Circuit House this afternoon.

Earlier, he held a meeting with the Vigilance and Observation Team, where overall security arrangements in Greater Chattogram were reviewed.

"As a politically, economically and strategically important border region, we have identified security-sensitive issues, assessed possible risks and determined necessary actions. All agencies are working together to prevent any untoward situation during the elections," Sanaullah said.

He noted that political parties and candidates are being closely monitored for compliance with the code of conduct, adding that relatively low inter-party conflict so far is a positive sign.

"As the election approaches, it is crucial that all parties refrain from violence. Our objective is to ensure a peaceful and festive election atmosphere," he added.

Expressing satisfaction over the preparedness of the integrated security forces in Greater Chattogram, the Election Commissioner stressed the need for a fair and peaceful election.

He also highlighted the role of the media in disseminating accurate information and countering misinformation, saying that spreading false information is a punishable offence and journalists can play a key role in preventing rumours.

Responding to concerns over alleged bias, Sanaullah urged aggrieved individuals to lodge complaints with the Election Inquiry Committee or through the Election Commission's complaint management system, assuring that appropriate action would be taken following investigation.

He also mentioned the ongoing 'Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2' against illegal arms holders, saying more than 200 illegal weapons have been recovered so far.

"The voters will move confidently to polling centres to cast their votes. The negative experiences of the past will not be repeated in the future, InshaAllah," he said.

During discussions with law enforcement agencies, the Election Commissioner underscored the importance of regularly sharing operational updates with the media and warned that any group or party attempting to commit crimes would be brought to justice and face consequences under national law.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin, Chattogram Range DIG Ahsan Habib Palash, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah, and Chattogram District Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan.
