Mourning meeting held at BOU remembering Khaleda Zia

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Open University (BOU) today organized a condolence meeting to recall the life and contributions of former three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The mourning meeting was held this morning at the auditorium of BOU's Central Conference and Training Centre.

Former BOU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. M. A. Bashar spoke at the programme as the key discussant with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam in the chair.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Sayeed Ferdous and Treasurer Prof Dr. Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim addressed the gathering as special guests. Registrar Prof M. Anisur Rahman moderated the session.

Prof Obaidul Islam said Begum Khaleda Zia's strong leadership in the restoration of democracy, her visionary role in education and human resource development and her historic contribution to the establishment of Bangladesh Open University would remain memorable in the nation's history.

He prayed for eternal peace of her departed soul and sought Jannat for her from the Almighty Allah.
