DHAKA, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 174 appeals were filed with the Election Commission (EC) on the fourth day against orders of returning officers regarding acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

With this, the total number of appeals filed over the past four days has reached 469, EC officials said.

The appeals were submitted today at 10 region-based booths set up at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon, officials added.

Of the 174 appeals filed on Thursday, 164 were against rejection of nomination papers, while 10 were against acceptance of nomination papers.

Earlier, 131 appeals were filed on Wednesday, while 122 appeals were lodged on Tuesday, the second day, against returning officers' decisions on acceptance and rejection of nominations.

On the first day, Monday, 41 appeals were filed against rejection orders and one appeal against acceptance of a nomination.

EC officials said appeals against acceptance and rejection of nomination papers can be filed until 5:00 pm tomorrow.

On January 4, the last day of scrutiny, returning officers or assistant returning officers declared 1,842 nominations valid and cancelled the candidacy of 723 aspirants out of a total of 2,568 nomination papers across the country's 300 parliamentary constituencies.

Meanwhile, an EC notice on the filing, hearing and disposal of appeals said that any aggrieved candidate, bank, financial institution or government service-providing institution may file an appeal with the Election Commission in the form of a memorandum (one set of original appeal documents along with six photocopies) within five days following scrutiny of nomination papers, if aggrieved by the Returning Officer's order of acceptance or rejection.

From January 5 to January 9 until 5:00 pm, any aggrieved candidate, bank, financial institution, government service-providing institution, or any person authorised in writing by a candidate may file an appeal with the EC.

Hearings on the appeals filed with the Election Commission may be held between January 10 and January 18 at Nirbachan Bhaban auditorium (Basement-2), where the full Commission will conduct the hearings.
