DHAKA, Jan 09, 2026 (BSS) - Adviser to the Ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Road Transport and Bridges; and Railways Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today said the people of the country will determine their destiny for the next 50 years through the national parliamentary election scheduled for February 12.
"Voters will be able to cast their votes freely in both the general election and the referendum, and no one will be able to obstruct them as necessary arrangements have been ensured," he said while inspecting specially designed 'Voter Gari' (the Super Caravan) at Gor-E-Shahid Boro Maidan in Dinajpur this morning.
Fouzul Kabir Khan said that in the past, people were deprived of exercising their voting rights. The July Mass Uprising by students and the masses reflected public protest against that deprivation. "Now the time has come to elect candidates of choice by exercising the right to vote," he added.
The adviser noted that reforms are necessary to maintain the balance of power and to stop enforced disappearances, murders and killings in the country. "Therefore, people should support reforms by voting 'Yes'. However, those who do not want reforms are also free to vote 'No'. There is no compulsion," he said.
Fouzul added that if people give their verdict in favour of the reform proposals through the referendum, the reform process will continue.
He further said the upcoming national election will be held under a neutral, non-partisan government, ensuring that no one can obstruct anyone from voting.
The adviser also said there are many minority and ethnic voters in Dinajpur. The government has instructed the local district administration and police to ensure that they can exercise their voting rights without hindrance. He sought cooperation from all to ensure a peaceful national election.
Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam presided over the event.
Among others present as special guests were Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Mohammad Saiful Islam; Chairman of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation Md Rezanur Rahman; Director General (current charge) of the Department of Mass Communication Md Abdul Jalil; Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Md Enamul Ahsan; and Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Md Jedan Al Musa.
