China ready to work with elected government: Humayun Kabir

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir today said China is prepared to work with an elected government in Bangladesh, following a meeting between BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and a visiting Chinese delegation led by Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen.

He said the meeting focused on advancing Bangladesh's economic development and strengthening bilateral relations in the post-election period. The discussion was held this evening at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Humayun Kabir said both sides exchanged views on how Bangladesh and China could cooperate more closely for the country's future development.

Responding to a question, he said the Chinese side had also sought opinions on the potential role of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in the development of the country and the welfare of its people after the elections.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Press Secretary to the Acting Chairman Saleh Shibli and Political Adviser to the Acting Chairman Mahadi Amin were also present at the meeting.
