Non-fiction book fair to begin at DU on Saturday

DHAKA, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - The ninth edition of the Non-Fiction Book Fair is set to begin at the Dhaka University (DU) Faculty of Business Studies premises on Saturday.

The fair is being jointly organized by Bonik Barta and the Faculty of Business Studies, DU. The organizers announced the details at a press conference held today at the Dr. Abdullah Farouk Conference Hall of the faculty.

The fair will officially open at 1:00 pm on January 10 (Saturday), and continue until January 12. It will be open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Professor Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Bonik Barta Assistant Editor Badrul Alam, Chief Reporter Imam-ul Hasan Adnan, Joint News Editor Shanjid Arnob, Head of Business Development and Branding Manjur Hossain, and DGM (External Affairs) Md Aminul Islam, among others, attended the press briefing.

The inaugural ceremony will be held at 4:00 pm on the day, with University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Fayez attending as the chief guest. President of Bangla Academy Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque and DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha will join as special guests.

This year's fair features participation from 39 publishing houses and research organizations. 

Visitors will be able to purchase books at discounts of up to 25 percent. A raffle draw offering attractive prizes for book buyers will take place on the final day of the fair.

Following last year's success, the fair authority will again present the 'Non-Fiction Book Award 2025'. 

A panel of judges will select winning books from nominations submitted by participating publishers, and the winners will be honored at the closing ceremony. Four books had received the award in 2024.

The closing ceremony is scheduled for 3:00 pm on January 12, with Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar attending as chief guest. 

DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed and members of the jury board of the 'Non-Fiction Book Award 2025' will also be present.
