DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - A special operation was conducted by the joint forces in Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga district to recover illegal firearms around 11 pm on January 12 on the basis of specific intelligence report.

During the operation, Md. Shamsuzzaman alias Dablu, 50, was detained from a pharmacy shop adjacent to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex on allegations of possessing illegal weapons, said an ISPR release today.

Subsequently, based on information provided by the detained individual, the patrol team carried out a search of the said pharmacy and recovered one 9 mm pistol, one magazine, and four rounds of ammunition.

After the operation, the detainee suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness. He was immediately taken to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor declared him dead around 12:25 am.

This incident is unexpected, regrettable, and in no way acceptable.

In the meantime, the camp commander of the concerned camp and all army personnel who participated in the operation have been withdrawn and a high-level investigation committee has been formed to find out the exact cause of the incident.

Appropriate legal action will be taken under military law against those found responsible following the investigation.
