EU backs interim govt's reform initiatives

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) - The European Union (EU) today expressed support  for the reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government and said it  is closely observing the reform process, according to the EU Ambassador to  Bangladesh.

EU Ambassador Michael Miller made the remarks during a meeting with Chief  Adviser's Special Assistant Professor Ali Riaz, at the Chief Adviser's Office  in the capital. 

The ambassador also conveyed the European Union's support for the  government's initiatives ahead of the upcoming referendum and the 13th  National Parliamentary Election.

"As part of the process to monitor the elections in Bangladesh, a large  European Union Election Observation Mission would be deployed," he said,  adding that a team has already arrived in the country.

Ambassador Miller expressed hope that the strong relations between Bangladesh  and the European Union would continue in the coming days.

During the meeting, Professor Ali Riaz briefed the Ambassador on various  activities related to the upcoming referendum and thanked the EU for its  support for Bangladesh's referendum process and democratic transition.
