CHT Affairs Minister pays homage to Language Martyrs

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today paid rich tributes to the Language Martyrs on the occasion of great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.

In the first hour of the day, he placed a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital. 

Talking to reporters after laying the wreath, the minister said the spirit of Ekushey February inspires the nation to stand firm against injustice and oppression.

"Language is not just a medium of communication; it is the foundation of our culture, identity and national consciousness," he said.

He added that the government remains committed to preserving, practising and promoting the mother tongues of all ethnic communities living across the country, including in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

In a multilingual and multicultural Bangladesh, Dipen Dewan urged all to remain united in mutual respect and communal harmony and to work together to advance the country's development.

Cabinet members, senior government officials and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
