CHATTOGRAM, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said that the government has been implementing various initiatives to promote sports at the grassroots level.

Aminul Haque was speaking as the chief guest at an event organised to inaugurate the construction of a mini stadium in Patiya upazila of the district this afternoon.

The State Minister mentioned that the government is actively working to enhance sports in the country through initiatives such as the construction of mini stadiums at the upazila level, providing sports allowances to national players, and identifying talented players from the union level.

He further noted that in accordance with the election commitments of the government, the construction of mini stadiums is progressing in every upazila across the nation.

"The processes for land acquisition and budget approval for the Patiya mini stadium have already been finalized. A stadium equipped with modern facilities will be constructed shortly," he added.

Aminul Haque stated that in order to promote sports, the government has established a special committee at the national level aimed at preserving and developing the fields.

This initiative is facilitating the preservation of playgrounds and the enhancement of sports infrastructure at the district, upazila, and union levels.

The government's objective is to expand sports opportunities in remote regions of the country and to orient the new generation towards sports. He noted that a sports allowance has been introduced for national-level players, with approximately 300 players already benefiting from this initiative.

"Around 500 players will be gradually included in this programme. Through the 'New Sports' initiative, players are being selected from the union level, creating opportunities for participation at the national level. The second phase of the programme is set to commence next September. In addition to the current events, several new events will be introduced," he added.
Mohammad Enamul Haque, MP, along with upazila administration officials and representatives from the National Sports Council (NSC), attended the programme.
