SYLHET, June 12, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico Mushfiqul Fazal Ansaree today said that the present government has taken time-befitting initiatives to take the country forward.

“We believe that the country will move ahead under the leadership of incumbent Prime Minister Tarique Rahman,” he said.

The ambassador made the remarks as the chief guest while addressing the inaugural function of the 24th fine arts exhibition at Sylhet District Shilpakala Academy here.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Padma Sen Sinha, Red Crescent Sylhet Unit Vice-President Badruzzaman Selim, and Sylhet city BNP General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury addressed the function as special guests.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and Technology) Masud Rana presided over the function.

Ansaree said incumbent Prime Minister Tarique Rahman leads a simple life and moves without any protocol. “He wants to stay close to the people, and the people of the country want such a prime minister,” he said, adding, “We must stand by the prime minister, and Bangladesh must emerge victorious.”

Regarding the proposed budget of Tk 9.38 lakh crore, the ambassador said the budget has been placed before parliament, adding that it is larger than the budgets of Middle Eastern countries such as Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Regarding the activities of the Shilpakala Academy, the Bangladeshi diplomat said art academies should reflect the country’s heritage, cultural values, and rich traditions in a true and meaningful way through their activities.

Recalling the July Uprising, he said, “You [youths] are the ones who drew alpana on these streets and painted pictures. Your graffiti spread across the whole of Bangladesh. The anger and pain within you were expressed there, and at the same time, deep compassion for your comrades and friends was reflected through the strokes of paint and brush.”

After the discussion, prize-distribution ceremony and a delightful cultural programme featuring performances by artists of the District Shilpakala Academy were held.
