DHAKA, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury today said skilled manpower and a safe working environment are the main keys to the country's prosperity.

"Our future generation is highly talented and full of potential. With proper guidance, they will take the country a long way forward. Seeing today's young winning students, I am very optimistic about their future," he said.

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a prize distribution ceremony of essay and article writing competitions organised for college and university students marking the "Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2026" at the conference room of Shram Bhaban in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.

Ariful said the present government is a labour-friendly government.

"No nation can make progress without skilled workers. China has advanced significantly in the global arena by utilising its skilled workforce," he said.

Highlighting the importance of a safe working environment for workers worldwide, the minister said developed countries give top priority to ensuring workplace safety, but the issue is yet to receive the desired attention in factories in Bangladesh.

Instructing labour inspectors in this regard, he said, "Do not just complete your duties formally during inspections. Try to meet workers directly, understand their problems and take necessary measures accordingly."

"These human resources are our country's valuable assets, and overall development of the country is possible through their effective utilisation," he added.

The minister also urged the young and present generation not to waste unnecessary time on social media, but instead spend their time on gaining knowledge and engaging in creative activities.

At the end of the programme, the minister handed over certificates and crests to the winning students.

Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafdar was present as a special guest at the event.

Additional Secretary of the Labour and Employment Ministry Md Abdur Rahim Khan chaired the programme.
