LAKSHMIPUR, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne today said the party will also lose public trust if it adopts culture of politicisation and abuse of power that developed during the fallen Awami League (AL)'s 17-year authoritarian rule.
Speaking at a reception for newly enrolled lawyers organised by the District Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum in Lakshmipur, he said the BNP must avoid repeating the mistakes of the previous government.
"If we follow the same path, people will no longer trust us and we will also fall behind in ensuring accountability," he said.
Anne said there was a fundamental difference between the politics of the Awami League and the BNP, adding that the BNP believed in democratic politics alongside other political parties.
He also criticised Jamaat and the National Citizen Party (NCP), alleging that their statements lacked patriotism and that they had no clear vision for the country's future.
District Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum President Hafizur Rahman chaired the programme, while General Secretary Ahmed Ferdous Manik conducted it.
Lawmakers Abul Khair Bhuiyan and ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan, Zila Parishad Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu and District BNP Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman, among others, attended the event.
