SYLHET, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today said that comprehensive reform of the education system is one of the top priorities of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He expressed optimism that planned reforms, efficient administration and quality teaching would bring visible positive changes to the education sector over the next five years.

The state minister made the remarks while briefing journalists after visiting several government primary schools at Jaintiapur and Gowainghat upazilas of the district.

He said the government has undertaken a series of initiatives to improve the quality of education, including infrastructure development, technology-based learning, a modern curriculum, teacher training, strengthening students' foundational skills and introducing an effective assessment system.

A new assessment framework is being developed to ensure that the students can acquire essential reading, writing and numeracy skills in the classroom. At the same time, measures are being strengthened to enhance teacher training, evaluate performance through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and regularly monitor the quality of classroom instruction.

Hajjaj said all the primary educational institutions, whether public or private, would be required to operate in accordance with government policies and quality standards.

To strengthen administrative capacity at the field level, he said, a series of workshops is being conducted for education officials at the divisional, district and upazila levels. A recent six-hour workshop in Sylhet Division provided detailed guidance on the new assessment system, classroom learning standards and administrative oversight.

He added that similar workshops would be completed in all divisions across the country by August 17.

"There will be no room for negligence in carrying out the responsibilities," he said adding that the new evaluation system would be used to regularly review the performance of education officials and teachers. Appropriate administrative action would be taken against those found negligent.

Among those present during the school visits were - Deputy Director of the Primary Education Directorate Md. Abdul Alim, Acting Divisional Deputy Director AKM Saiful Hasan, District Primary Education Officer Sakhawat Ershad, Jaintiapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sunanda Roy, Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ratan Kumar Adhikari and Assistant Superintendent of Police Salman Noor Alam.
