DHAKA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain has said proper vocational education is essential for equipping the younger generation with skills needed to meet the demands of the modern world.

He made the remarks while addressing the "Career Guideline Program-2026" at the Bangladesh National Museum auditorium at Shahbagh today.

The programme was organized by the Dinajpur Journalists' Association, Dhaka (DJAD) for students from Dinajpur studying in Dhaka and recent graduates.

The minister said traditional or rote learning alone would not be enough to face future challenges.

In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, young people need technology-based and practical knowledge along with creativity and discipline, he added.

He said the government is providing skills training to youths in various trades to help them become self-reliant and contribute to society.

He added that no citizen should be deprived of education or healthcare due to financial hardship.

State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad, who attended as special guest, highlighted the importance of mentorship programmes for students from rural areas.

He also said 20,000 kilometres of canals would be excavated in Dinajpur under the government's environmental and agricultural development initiatives.

RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam encouraged students to become entrepreneurs rather than only seeking jobs.

University teachers, corporate professionals and BCS officers also provided career guidance on technology skills, language development, BCS preparation and startup opportunities.
