LALMONIRHAT, July 31, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP has said that every citizen should pledge to plant at least one tree to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable ecological future. 
 
"If each of us plants one tree, then the dream of greening the country will become a reality. 
 
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 10-day-long 'Lalmonirhat District Tree Fair- 2026' at the Lalmonirhat Collectorate grounds on Friday afternoon, a press release of the Rangpur Regional PID Office said tonight. 

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Haque Prodhan presided over the programme. 
 
The minister said that a tree not only maintains the balance of the environment; it ensures the long-term welfare of the individual, society and future generations. 

The ignorance and irresponsible behavior of some people in terms of environmental conservation is worrying. 
 
"Trees planted for beautification purposes on various road islands, open spaces and public gathering areas are often destroyed due to carelessness, negligence or destructive activities," he mentioned. 
 
Terming such activities as a threat to the environment, he stressed the need to take necessary protective measures to protect newly planted trees. 
 
He said that initiatives will be taken to distribute the saplings produced by them among the students of various educational institutions in the district to encourage private nursery owners. 
 
At the same time, he assured of allocating space for the nursery owners' association in Lalmonirhat district town. 
 
The minister called on government and private institutions, voluntary organizations and the general public to work together to implement the massive 25-crore tree plantation programme announced by the government in five years across the country. 
 
Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman, Principal of Lalmonirhat Government College Professor Abu Imam Md Rashedunnabi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Dr Md Shaikhul Arefin and Divisional Forest Officer of Rangpur Social Forestry Division Md Nurul Islam were present as special guests at the event. 
 
Government officials, nursery owners, teachers and students of various educational institutions and media personnel were present. 
 
As many as 30 stalls have been set up in this 10-day district tree fair where saplings of various species of forest, fruit and medicinal plants are being displayed and sold to common visitors. 

The fair will be open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm every day. 

Later, the minister inspected various ongoing development projects in the district. 
 
After the inspection, he participated in the evaluation meeting of 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' programme at the new auditorium of the Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad.
