JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have formed a five-member investigation committee to examine allegations of irregularities involving research papers published by several university researchers in international journals that were later retracted.

The committee has been tasked with uncovering the facts surrounding the retractions, determining the authenticity of the allegations and submitting a report with recommendations within 30 working days, according to an office order signed by Acting Registrar Dr. A B M Azizur Rahman. 

The committee will be headed by Prof Dr. Mahbub Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences.

The other members are - Prof Dr. Mohammad Zahidur Rahman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof Dr. Md. Salequl Islam of the Department of Microbiology, Associate Prof Mohammad Mamun Or Rashid of the Department of Bangla, and Deputy Registrar (General Administration) Md. Mahtab-Uz-Zahid, who will serve as member secretary. 

The move comes days after allegations over irregularities published in newspapers regarding several internationally published research papers involving JU researchers drew widespread attention, prompting the university administration to initiate a formal investigation.
