RAJSHAHI, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) – July Mass Uprising Day was observed with due dignity at Rajshahi University (RU) today.

A procession led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam was brought out from in front of the Senate Building.

Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Abdul Alim and Professor Mamunur Rashid, along with senior administrative officials, deans of faculties, chairpersons of departments, directors of institutes, and teachers and students, took part in the procession.

The Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated a two-day photo and documentary exhibition organised on the Senate Building premises.

The Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellors planted saplings on the Senate Building premises. At the same time, an art camp titled 'July Mass Uprising: A Free Homeland in Colors' was held at the Charukala Muktamancha.

Later, a discussion titled 'July Mass Uprising, Determination of Youth; Commitment to Democracy and the Journey of a New Bangladesh' was held at the Senate Building.

Three injured July fighters—Md Imran, Moniraj and Hafizul Islam—spoke at the discussion.

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said the course of Bangladesh's history had changed through the July Mass Uprising.

"Through this mass uprising, 17 years of fascist rule and its beneficiaries were overthrown. As a result, a government elected by the people's vote has been established in the country," he said.

Although the people emerged victorious in the mass uprising, the defeated fascist forces were again attempting to return, he said.

"To prevent this, unity must be maintained in every sphere. It is essential to overcome division, disagreement and distrust among us and act responsibly in society," he added.

"Our determination must be that the blood of the July fighters does not go in vain. I firmly believe that the people, inspired by the spirit of the mass uprising, remain united toward that goal," the Vice-Chancellor said.
