July Mass Uprising Day observed in Pakistan

DHAKA, August 5, 2026 (BSS) – The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad today observed July Mass Uprising Day 2026 with due solemnity, paying tribute to the martyrs of the 2024 movement and reaffirming the country’s commitment to democracy and equality.

The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag at the Bangladesh Chancery Complex by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan, accompanied by officials and staff of the High Commission while the national anthem was played.

A discussion meeting was held at the High Commission’s conference room, beginning with the recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of those martyred in the July Mass Uprising.

Messages from the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out, while a documentary on the July Mass Uprising was screened.

High Commissioner Iqbal Hossain Khan said August 5 is a day of pride, victory and the restoration of democratic political rights for people who cherish freedom and democracy.

He called upon all to work together to build state institutions free from discrimination and stressed the need to institutionalise democracy.

Among others, officials of the High Commission, Chairperson of the SAARC Chambers Women Entrepreneurs Council Hina Monsab Khan and Ambassador Salahuddin Chowdhury took part in the discussion.

The speakers highlighted the role of students and the masses in the July Awakening, saying the nation must honour the sacrifices of the martyrs by ensuring political and economic empowerment, eliminating discrimination and establishing social justice to build a self-reliant, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.

The programme concluded with special prayers seeking eternal peace for the souls of those martyred in the 2024 Mass Uprising and continued peace and prosperity for the country.
