DHAKA, Aug 05, 2026 (BSS)- Dhaka University (DU) authorities have expressed deep concern over news reports regarding the involvement of a section of its faculty members in anti-state activities and initiated procedures to take legal and administrative action against them, a DU press release said today. 
 
According to a press release, the university authority's attention was drawn to recent media reports involving 404 teachers from 22 universities across the country. 

The reports alleged their involvement in anti-state activities aimed at bringing back absconding death-row convict Sheikh Hasina and reactivating a banned political party.

The press release stated that the university is observing the matter with grave concern. Such activities violate existing national laws and the judicial process, constituting direct anti-state conduct. These actions are viewed as deliberate attempts to create instability within the university and the country, spreading confusion, and question state institutions. 

While emphasizing that Dhaka University has always respected free thought, rule of law, democratic values, and constitutional structures, the release stressed that anti-state or illegal activities carried out under the guise of freedom of expression are entirely unacceptable. 

Engaging in such activities directly conflict with the dignity, moral standing, and professional responsibilities of a university teacher.

Citing Article 56(3) of the Dhaka University Order 1973, Article 45(3) of the First Statutes, and Rule 13 of Chapter 20 of the DU Ordinance and Regulations, the authority categorized such conduct as teacher-unworthy and moral turpitude.

Under Rule 13(2) of Chapter 20 of the university Ordinance and Regulations, those found guilty of such offenses may face disciplinary measures, including compulsory retirement, removal, or dismissal from service.

The university administration confirmed that legal and administrative proceedings have already been initiated against those involved in accordance with existing university rules and national laws.

Reiterating its stance, Dhaka University reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy towards any action that undermines state sovereignty, the constitution, the law, judicial verdicts, or the dignity of the university, stating that no offender will be exempted regardless of their identity or position.

The university authorities urged all teachers, students, officers, and employees to act responsibly, respect the law, and uphold peace, stability, and democratic harmony in the country.
