DHAKA, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain today said attempts are being made to destabilise the country once again by using foreign agents.

"Although the autocratic regime has fallen, its collaborators are still active in various ways. With the support of foreign evil forces, they are engaged in conspiracies to undermine the country's independence, sovereignty and existence," he said.

He made the remarks while addressing a discussion at the conference room of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at secretariat here, marking the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising Day.

Sakhawat said, "Everyone must remain united to safeguard this independence. We must resist all conspiracies and build a discrimination-free Bangladesh,"

Describing the July Revolution of 2024 as an eruption of long-standing public anger against autocracy, the minister said, "Like the Language Movement of 1952, the Mass Uprising of 1969, the Liberation War of 1971 and the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, the July Mass Uprising is also a unique symbol of our achievements. The July movement did not emerge in a single day. Since 2009, the oppression, enforced disappearances, killings, corruption, money laundering and political persecution carried out by the then fascist government had built up public anger, which erupted in July like a volcanic explosion."

Sakhawat said the way the country's young men and women took to the streets and built resistance was a rare event in world history. Those who lost their eyes, hands or legs, or were martyred during the July uprising, would be remembered forever with respect by the nation for their sacrifice and contribution, he continued.

He said the people of Bangladesh had set a unique example before the world in the case of uprising. "I pay my respects to those who were martyred in the July Uprising on August 5."

The minister said, "We are taking a pledge to build a corruption-free Ministry of Health. Ensuring quality healthcare for the common people is our primary goal. The Ministry of Health will be built on the principles of freedom from corruption and the highest standard of healthcare services."

Chaired by Health Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Prof. Dr. Probhat Chandra Biswas, Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education Prof. Dr. Nazmul Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Health Services Division Md. Khorshed Alam, Additional Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Division S M Ahsanul Aziz, and Director General of the Directorate General of Family Planning Dr. Jinnat Rehana.
