DHAKA, Aug 8, 2026 (BSS) - Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, today described the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) as a shining example of humanity and professional excellence and said it would continue to stand by the people, while promoting doctors' welfare and improving healthcare.
"I believe that, upholding its tradition, professional competence and humanitarian commitment, DAB will continue to play an important role in promoting doctors' welfare, improving the quality of healthcare and standing by the people," she said.
Zubaida Rahman, also Vice President of Ziaur Rahman Foundation, made the remarks while addressing a doctors' rally as a special guest at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, marking the 37th founding anniversary of DAB.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended as the chief guest at the programme, chaired by DAB President Professor Dr Harun Al Rashid.
Zubaida Rahman said, "I believe that DAB is a shining example of humanity and professional excellence among the country's medical community."
At the outset of her speech, Zubaida Rahman paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and extended greetings to DAB members and the country's medical community.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Dr Zubaida Rahman planted neem and arjun saplings on the premises of the LD Hall.
They later formally inaugurated the rally by hoisting the national and party flags and releasing balloons and pigeons.
DAB leaders and doctors from different parts of the country attended the gathering.
BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain, Prime Minister's Adviser Ismail Zabihullah, State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit, DAB Secretary General Dr Md Zahirul Islam Shakil, and senior officials of the Prime Minister's Office, among others, were present on the occasion.
