SIRAJGANJ, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said that BNP leaders and activists fought and struggled against ousted fascist Sheikh Hasina for 17 long years under the leadership of uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia.

He made the remarks this evening at a doa and milad mahfil organized by Sirajganj District BNP, seeking eternal peace for former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, marking her 82nd birthday.

Tuku urged the people to pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul of the leader on her birthday.

Noting the suppression by fallen Awami regime, Tuku said, "Hasina had sent her to prison through a conspiracy and even subjected her to "slow poisoning" in prison, pushing her towards death."

Sirajganj District BNP Vice-President Nazmul Hasan Talukder Rana, General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu, Joint General Secretaries VP Shamim Khan and Rashedul Hasan Ranjan, Organizing Secretary Abu Saeed Sweet, District Jubo Dal Convener Abdullah Al Kayes, and leaders of affiliated and associate organizations, were present at the event.
