JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - A special doa and milad mahfil was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) today marking the 82nd birthday of late Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The doa mahfil was organised after Asr prayers at the university's Central Mosque by the Nationalist Teachers' Forum, Nationalist Officers-Employees' Forum and JU unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan attended the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the programme, Prof Kamrul said Begum Zia was a leader of all, just as Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was.
"Begum Khaleda Zia spoke little, but whatever she said was clear and necessary, and was important for the people of the country. Despite the pain of losing her husband, she stood by the people of the country," he said.
The VC sought prayers for the eternal peace and salvation of the departed leader.
JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and President of the Nationalist Teachers' Forum (NTF) Professor Dr Md Shamsul Alam and President of the Nationalist Officers-Employees' Forum Professor Mafruhi Sattar also spoke at the programme.
They recalled various aspects of Begum Khaleda Zia's long political career and sought prayers for the salvation of her departed soul.
General Secretary of the Nationalist Teachers' Forum Professor Md Jamal Uddin, officials and employees of different levels, JCD leaders and activists and general students were also present.
The programme was moderated by JU JCD Convener Jahir Uddin Babor while Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik present during the programme.
A special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace and salvation of Begum Khaleda Zia, as well as peace, prosperity and welfare of the country and its people.
