DHAKA, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion and doa mahfil on the life and teachings of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was held at Dhaka University Central Mosque today, marking Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

The event focused on peace, progress, harmony, tolerance, universal brotherhood, human rights and women's dignity in Islam.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A. B. M. Obaidul Islam attended the programme as chief guest, while Pro-Vice Chancellor (admin) Professor Dr Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane was present as special guest.

Arabic Department Chairman Professor Dr Muha. Mizanur Rahman and Islamic Studies Department Chairman Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman also spoke at the discussion. Senior Imam and Khatib Hafez Maulana Nazir Mahmud conducted the prayers.

Speaking at the event, Prof Obaidul Islam said peace could be restored to society only when people shaped their personal, family and social lives according to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.

Referring to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as Al-Amin (the truthful), he said people today often resort to falsehood, self-interest and intolerance instead of honesty, selflessness and mutual respect.

Describing the Prophet (PBUH) as an ideal and complete human being, the VC urged people to uphold justice and the rule of law by following his teachings.

He called for avoiding falsehood, slander, injustice, wrongdoing, hatred, malice, extremism and arrogance, saying that peace and harmony would prevail when the Prophet's ideals were reflected in people's words, actions and conduct.
