DHAKA, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) - Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon called for a more in-depth and better-organized educational partnership between Bangladesh and China. 

He made the call at the China–Bangladesh Education Exchange Conference at South China Normal University in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, said a press release received here today.

Milon stressed long-term collaboration between universities through joint research, scholarships, the exchange of students and faculty, short-term training, and joint Master’s and PhD programmes, and at the same time encouraged institutions on both sides to establish sustainable academic partnerships.

Senior education officials and university leaders from China and Bangladesh gathered at the conference in order to talk about enhancing academic cooperation and exploring new opportunities for students  and institutions in both countries.

Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin and Technical and Madrasah Education Secretary Md. Daud Miah were in the Bangladesh side. 

On the Chinese side, the participants were Xu Shimin, the Provincial Chief Inspector of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Zhou Liuyu, Deputy Director of the Exchange and Cooperation Office; Engr. Sheikh Korban Ali, Vice-President of the China-Bangladesh Education and Culture Association; Wang Peng, Vice-Secretary; Zheng Pengwu, Consultant; and Professor Yang Chengwei, Vice President of South China Normal University.

At the conference, Xu Shimin once again stated Guangdong's dedication to international education and its intention to accept more Bangladeshi students. During the 2024–2025 academic year, 261 Bangladeshi students studied in Guangdong, and 20 received the Guangdong Government Scholarship in 2025.

The conference ended with both parties stating that they were committed to increasing university cooperation, academic exchange and long-term educational partnerships between China and Bangladesh.
