DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anne today said the government would not allow anyone to use political identity or influence for personal gain, warning of strict action against any irregularities.

"The law and order situation must improve alongside development activities. No one will be allowed to exploit political identity or influence for personal gain. If any irregularity is found in any department, it will be investigated and strict action will be taken," he said while addressing a district law and order meeting in Lakshmipur.

The minister said the BNP and the country's people had endured neglect, deprivation and humiliation over the past 17 years. "The past 17 years are not a short period. During this time, the BNP and the country's people remained neglected and suffered deprivation and humiliation," he said.

Anne said the BNP-led government had been implementing development plans since assuming office and was continuing those initiatives on a priority basis. He also prayed for the eternal peace of those martyred and the speedy recovery of those injured in the July Uprising.

Highlighting development plans for Lakshmipur, the minister said a railway line would be established in the district, describing it as a long-standing demand of its residents. He said work was underway to turn the project into reality.

Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner S.M. Mehedi Hasan chaired the meeting.

Among those present were Lakshmipur-2 lawmaker Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Lakshmipur-1 lawmaker Shahadat Hossain Selim, Superintendent of Police Md. Abu Tarek, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Municipal Administrator Samrat Khisa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM) Mejba Ul Alam Bhuiya, Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, officials of the district and upazila administrations, and leaders of different political parties.

Later, the minister attended a July rally at Lakshmipur Girls' School ground and the July Mass Uprising Day programme at the Town Hall auditorium.
