DHAKA, Jan 23, 2025 (BSS) - Jatiya Nagorik Committee chief organiser Sarjis Alam has filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station under Cyber Security Act over defamatory posts regarding him on Facebook.

Sarjis filed the case against unnamed admins of two Facebook pages on January 22. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter accepted the first information report (FIR) of the case today and asked police to submit a report on February 27.

The student activist in his plea said he found out on January 22 that two Facebook pages had made some posts about him, with some doctored screenshots of chatting from a WhatsApp account, which he doesn’t use anymore.

Sarjis said those posts with the help of edited chat screenshots brought some fabricated allegations including plotting cyber bullying against a co-coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, in an extremely dishonest manner to defame him. One of those pages also brought false allegations like I have been expelled from the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation over money embezzlement, he added.
