CU form committee to probe August 30 clash, all exams postponed until Sept 4

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 1, 2025 (BSS) -  The authority of Chattogram University (CU) today formed a 21-member probe committee to dig out the real cause and clues of August 30 series of fierce clashes between Chattogram University (CU) students and locals inhabitants.  

Headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin , the committee consists of CU syndicate members , former CUSCU VP and member of the Advisory council of BNP chairperson, S M Fazlul Haque who hailed from local Hathazari upazila and representatives of different student organizations. 

Meanwhile, the CU authority has decided to postpone all scheduled exams up to Sept 4 following unusual situation which prevailed following Saturday’s clash between students and locals that left scores injured from both sides. 

CU Pro VC (Admin ) Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin and Proctor Tanvir Haider also sustained injuries while they were trying to prevent the clash. 

The announcement of exam postponement was circulated through an official notification signed by the university’s Acting Controller of Examinations, Professor Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, at 7 PM on Sunday.

According to the notice, new dates for the postponed exams will be announced later.

The clash occurred on Saturday night at Gate No. 2 of the university between students and local Jobra villagers. It started on Saturday at 12 am and intermittently continued until Sunday at 3 pm. 

Hathazari upazila administration finally imposed section 144 to control the situation.

A contingent of joint forces has been on patrol on the CU campus and adjoining areas. The forces also began searching to arrest the criminals involved in the clash. 

As per latest development, two persons were detained by joint forces during the operation but their identity could not be confirmed till filling of this report.
