Two held with 10 gold bars in Jashore

JASHORE, Dec 4, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged smugglers with 10 gold bars from Muradgarh bus stand area in Sadar upazila here early today.

According to BGB officials, the seized gold bars weigh a total of 1 kilogram and 164 grams, with an estimated market value of Taka over 2.10 crore.

The detainees were identified as Faridul Islam, 28, son of Md. Abul Kalam of Dakshin Chandpur village in Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga and Md. Mahfuz Alam, 31, son of Abdul Latif of Bajipota village in Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah district.

On a tip-off, a BGB patrol team conducted a drive around 5:30 am in the area and arrested them and recovered the gold bars hidden in their pants pockets, said Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, commander of Jashore BGB-49 Battalion.

During preliminary questioning, the arrestees confessed that they had collected the gold bars from smugglers in Dhaka's Tantibazar area and were heading toward the Indian border in Chowgachha upazila to smuggle the consignment into India.

BGB officials have filed a case in connection with the incident. The two suspects were later handed over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station for further legal action.
