Fire at Turag residential building under control; 23 rescued safely

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2025 (BSS) - Firefighters successfully extinguished a blaze that broke out in a 10-storey residential building in Turag, on the outskirts of the capital, after one and a half hours of intensive efforts early today.

A total of 23 residents were rescued from the building, with five sustaining minor injuries. No serious injuries were reported.

Fire officials told BSS that the fire originated on the 5th floor of the building located at 8/1 Shukurbhanga in Turag, Dhaka, at around 5:50am.

Responding promptly, firefighters arrived on the scene within eight minutes.

They brought the flame under control at 6:36am and completely extinguished it by 7:15am.

A total of 12 fire service units-seven from Uttara, two from Pallabi, two from Tongi, and one from Kurmitola-took part in the operation.

Officials said firefighters first evacuated residents from the upper floors to the rooftop to ensure their safety. 

Once the situation stabilized, they were guided safely downstairs.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical malfunction.

Authorities estimated the damage at Tk 20 lakh, while Tk 1.5 crore worth of property was saved, according to fire service sources.

Fire service officials urged residents to remain vigilant about electrical safety to avoid similar incidents in the future.
