DHAKA, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) -  BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today called upon everyone to come forward in the journey to establish true democracy with keeping human rights protected.

He made the call in a message posted on his verified facebook page on the eve of the Human Rights Day.

Tarique Rahman said the theme of Human Rights Day 2025 is ‘Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials’.

With this year’s theme in focus, he expressed his deep solidarity with the oppressed people around the world who have lost their fundamental rights.

“At the same time, I affirm that—whether in Bangladesh or anywhere else on earth—no one should ever again be deprived of basic human rights. For that, the protection of human rights must be an essential part of our everyday practice,” he said.

The BNP acting chairman said, “Our country has endured a dark chapter of fascist misrule for more than a decade and a half, during which human rights were buried.”

Democracy was obliterated, and the state apparatus was gripped firmly in the hands of an authoritarian clique, he said.

Those who stood against this tyranny—be they politicians, journalists, students, workers, or ordinary citizens—were subjected to false cases, imprisonment, physical torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings, he mentioned.

Tarique Rahman paid deep respect to the souls of those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for civil liberties, at the hands of a ruthless ruling group.

He expressed profound sympathy for those who continue to face persecution and oppression.

“Today, we stand on a new journey—a journey to restore democracy and safeguard human rights. Our future state must be one where human rights remain protected. Poverty is now viewed globally as one of the most serious human rights challenges. Eradicating poverty is an attainable goal in establishing human rights,” he said.

The BNP acting chairman said this year’s theme for Human Rights Day reminds that human rights are not an issue for a single day—it requires daily vigilance against violations and continuous initiatives for remedy.

He said BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, endured long-term imprisonment and a wrongful conviction that subjected her to extreme suffering—a  stigmatized chapter of human rights violations.

“This episode reminds us that the struggle against injustice must never cease. The victory of just resistance is inevitable,”

He also prayed for quick recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia.

“At this moment, the people of the country are united in their commitment to protecting human rights. Everyone must come forward in this journey of establishing true democracy while protecting human rights. This should be our firm commitment on the universal Human Rights Day declared by the United Nations,” he said.
