DHAKA, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard (CG) has arrested 22 smugglers near Saint Martin's Island with a huge quantity of cement and
Burmese lungis.

"A Bangladesh Coast Guard ship 'Apurba Bangla' conducted a special operation in the sea area adjacent to the southwest of Saint Martin at 10 pm last night
and arrested 11 Bangladeshi smugglers along with 700 sacks of cement worth Taka 350,000," Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said.

The operation was conducted based on secret information, as the Bangladeshi smugglers were engaged to smuggle out cement to Myanmar by evading customs and taxes, he added.

Besides, the same ship searched another suspicious fishing boat in the sea area near southwest of Saint Martin's Torn Island and arrested 11 Myanmar
smugglers and seized 1,200 pieces of Burmese lungis worth Taka 12 lakh while illegally smuggling from Myanmar to Bangladesh by evading customs and taxes.

Legal procedure against the seized goods, boat and arrested people is underway. The Coast Guard said that such a drive will continue in the future to prevent
smuggling.
