
DHAKA, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS)- As BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to return to Dhaka on December 25 after nearly 18 years in exile in London, the party is making extensive preparations for his arrival.
The BNP has prepared both a residence and an office for Tarique Rahman. He will reside at House No. 196 in Gulshan Avenue. This residence is located near 'Firoza,' the rented house where BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia currently lives.
BNP media cell member Shayrul kabir Khan told BSS that a separate chamber for the Acting Chairman has also been prepared at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan."
Moreover, another house has been rented in Gulshan, which will serve as the base for all activities related to the Thirteenth National Parliamentary Election.
When Tarique Rahman arrives at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 25, party leaders and workers will be present to give him a grand reception.
Regarding this, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "The countrymen are awaiting our leader. On that day, party workers and leaders from all levels will orderly position themselves on both sides of the road to welcome their beloved leader. We are working on these preparations."
A joint meeting of the BNP and its associated organizations was held at the Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Monday. Detailed discussions were held on how to receive Tarique Rahman. The meeting was chaired by Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The residence designated for Tarique Rahman is House No. 196 on Gulshan Avenue which was originally allocated to Begum Khaleda Zia by the cabinet of the then-President Justice Abdus Sattar following President Ziaur Rahman's assassination.
A few months ago, the deeds and documents for this house were handed over to the BNP Chairperson by the Public Work adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) Riazul Islam Rizu.
According to the party sources, Tarique Rahman will be moving into that house, and all preparations there are reported to be nearing completion.
Separate chambers have been prepared for the Acting Chairman beside the Chairperson's chamber at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan and party's central office in Naya Paltan.
Shayrul Kabir Khan expressed his excitement, saying, "We who have been working for a long time are eagerly counting down the hours until Tarique Rahman, the Manasputra (ideal figure) of our multiparty democracy and the visionary of a modern, self-reliant state, sets foot on the soil of Dhaka."
"For that goal, whatever you may say, all our preparations revolve around him. Inshallah, we believe our leader will re-establish the lost democracy, as the people of the country expect," he added.
A building at House 10C, Road 90 in Gulshan has been rented as a new BNP office. This four-story building has strict security measures. It includes a briefing room on the second floor, and seating arrangements for officials in charge of various departments on the other floors. A research cell is also housed there.
Acting Chairman’s adviser Mahdi Amin held the first press conference at the newly opened office today. He stated, "This is an office of the BNP. All election-related activities will be managed from here."
"You are certainly aware that the Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh on December 25, Inshallah. There are intense emotion, aspiration, and interest among the masses surrounding his homecoming," he added.
During the press conference, he also announced the "Amar Bhabonay Bangladesh- National Reel-Making Competition" programme to mark Tareque Rahman's return.
