DHAKA, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today said the political forces responsible for the 'genocides' of 1971 and 2024 share identical characteristics.

He said, "Just as there was a genocidal party in the past, another genocidal force emerged in 2024. These two forces share the same character, the same goals and the same authoritarian nature."

Dudu made the remarks at a discussion titled "Great Victory Day, Ziaur Rahman, and the Current Context" organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ganatantra Parishad at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club.

The BNP leader noted that a specific quarter is systematically attempting to create instability. He warned that everyone must remain united and vigilant to establish democracy and the people's right to vote. "Any wrong decision at this stage could lead us into a dire situation," he cautioned.

Highlighting a conspiracy to foil the upcoming elections, Shamsuzzaman Dudu said, "A particular group is trying to create a situation where elections cannot be held. We must remain determined and united against such efforts."

He emphasized that division for personal or group interests would only harm the country. "If the election is obstructed for any reason, the beneficiaries will be autocratic forces and a neighboring country; the people of Bangladesh will gain nothing."

The former Chahatro Dal president mentioned that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is currently fighting for her life. Expressing deep respect, he prayed for her speedy recovery and return to public life.

Advisor to the BNP Chairperson Abdus Salam, BNP Assistant Local Government Affairs Secretary Shammi Akhter, Member of the National Executive Committee Kazi Rafiq, among others, participated in the event.
