Renovation of Muktarpur bridge begins

DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Renovation and modernization work of the 6th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge (Muktarpur Bridge) connecting Munshiganj and Dhaka has officially begun.

The renovation work of this bridge is being carried out with technical and financial assistance from the Chinese government in continuation of the long-standing friendly relation between Bangladesh and China.

The main objective of this project is to ensure the structural safety of the bridge and increase its long-term durability, which will play an important role in smooth communication system of the region.

A colourful programme was organised on the occasion on bank of the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj this morning.
 
Chaired by Bridge Division Secretary and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf, the event was attended, among others, by Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen.

Senior officials of the Bridge Division and Bangladesh Bridge Authority, a delegation from the Chinese Embassy were present.

Abdur Rouf said the renovation work of bridge is being carried out under the guidance and direct supervision of Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. 

The 6th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge is working as an important lifeline in the economic and social development of this region. 

Through this renovation work, the carrying capacity of the bridge will be made compatible with the current needs, which will be a shining example of technical cooperation between the two countries.
