8 AL leaders, activists arrested in Tangail

TANGAIL, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested eight leaders and activists of Awami League in the district during a special drive conducted over the last 24 hours.

According to district police, they were arrested between 12:00 noon on Tuesday and Wednesday morning from different areas under Sakhipur, Ghatail, Mirzapur, Nagarpur, Tangail Sadar, Gopalpur and Basail Police Stations.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nasir Hossain, Rifat, Md Sohel Mia, Md Ispahani Dali, Md Maniar Hossain, Md Mizanur Rahman, Md Sadiqal Islam and Moslem. They are leaders and activists of the Awami League at various levels and are accused in multiple cases.

Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar said the arrests were carried out as part of a special police operation targeting accused persons. "They were arrested in connection with various cases. Legal action has been taken, and they have been produced before the court today," he said.

Police said the drive would continue as part of ongoing law enforcement efforts in the district.
