KHULNA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has set a target of around eight lakh participants for a mass rally of its Chairman Tarique Rahman in Khulna, as extensive preparations are underway to make the programme a success.

Khulna City and District BNP, along with their allied organisations, have distributed responsibilities among leaders and activists and formed six sub-committees to oversee coordination, accommodation, discipline, media and publicity, party sources said.

Organisers said a large stage and a modern sound system are being brought from Dhaka, while preparatory meetings are being held at party offices focusing on venue security, crowd management, media coordination and promotional activities. Microphone publicity has already started across the city and district.

Khulna City BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin said the rally will be held at 10:00 am on Monday at the Prabhati School ground in Khalishpur.

The decision was finalised at a meeting of senior BNP leaders in Khulna on Friday night. The meeting was attended by BNP nominees Nazrul Islam Manju (Khulna-2), Rakibul Islam Bakul (Khulna-3), party Information Secretary and Khulna-4 candidate Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna-5 candidate Ali Asgar Lobi, along with other city and district leaders.

Party leaders said the aim is to turn the programme into the largest election rally in the southern region, with participants expected from Khulna and neighbouring districts.

They described Tarique Rahman's visit as a milestone ahead of the upcoming polls, noting that it will be his first political programme in Khulna in more than two decades.

Khulna City BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona said the visit would boost the morale of party activists and play a significant role in strengthening the party's organisational base in the region.

Besides, the administration is taking necessary measures to maintain law and order during the programme.
