CHATTOGRAM, Feb 05, 2026 (BSS)- A total of 345 Rohingyas comprising men, women, and children were detained during an operation in the Chandanaish upazila of the district today.

They were taken to custody as part of a collaborative effort by the police, BGB, and army ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandanaish Police Ilias Khan said the joint forces executed a search operation in the vicinity of Burma Colony within Dohazari Municipality of the upazila on Wednesday night, resulting in their detention.

Authorities reported that during an operation initiated after midnight, searches were carried out in over 100 houses in Burma Colony and detained 176 men, 86 women, and 83 children and adolescents.

Police said citizenship status of the detainees and their addresses in the Rohingya camp are being verified and they will be shifted to the Rohingya camp via representatives from the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC).

OC Ilyas Khan said the operation was conducted in Burma Colony considering its vulnerability as a crime-prone area to manage the law and order situation ahead of the coming parliament elections.
